Thrifted Bargains, Tiny 9 Patches, Knitting Moss Stitch from Canadian Needle Nana

Ned's big brother is staying with us for a little while. Here he's having a chat with Tony. Petey is demonstrating his signature move...how he can balance and beg at the same time. Definitely treat worthy, he insists.

During this week, I've been tv stitching. So enjoy making these tiny EPP blocks.
I found another YouTube stitcher to watch who enjoys both cross stitch and quilting. Laura at LalaDee Stitches. She has a great upbeat vibe and shares much enthusiasm for each of her many projects. She does beautiful work in both cross stitching and quilting ...

Bramble Blooms, Future Dreams Wool, Free Pattern from Canadian Needle Nana

I got a start when I glanced out the kitchen window. This guy was over close to the veranda seemingly looking in the window. I wondered what had caught his attention. I keep my camera there and took this shot while he kept staring. Then I realized there was a Red Squirrel on the wood pile in front of the window and no doubt that was what he was staring at.

Got to treat ourselves with a fast food take out meal recently. The fries were good and the wrap was a bacon, tomato/cucumber salad one. It was tasty ...

Free Patterns, Surprising Beauty Product, Tiny 9 Patches, Peanut Butter Balls from Canadian Needle Nana

Tony's breakfast...Beth's homemade bread, one slice with peanut butter and the other with marmalade.

He gets a subscription to Down Home, a Newfoundland magazine, every year for his birthday. He enjoys reading it and doing the puzzle pages. I like to check the recipes. Here's one recently that brought back memories...a very popular sweet back home, Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls. Simple ingredients. Would these be popular where you are??
My Sunday slow stitching was finishing these EPP tiny 3 inch 9 patch blocks. I'd put aside a few yellowish scraps when I was sorting ...

Two You Tube Quilty Stars, Stitching Tiny Blocks from Canadian Needle Nana

I park at the edge of parking lots and one day I went behind the little mini mall to park. Look what was there waiting for me. Usually here on the property, to see 3 deer together is a big deal. I counted 9 spread out amongst the trees. It was early morning so they may have overnighted there.

I roasted a large chicken (I now buy the largest one I can find these days) that I stuffed with a bread stuffing.  It made meals most of last week, well, for three days anyway.
Finished it with cooking the carcass ...

Cakes, Tiny 9 Patch, Snow Days Embroidery, Free Patterns from Canadian Needle Nana

I have a male and female cardinal visiting the feeder. They arrive very late, almost dark, getting a little  last minute nourishment before the long night begins. The male is not nearly as bright as he will become very soon. Did you know they mate for life?

I've not shown a lovely cake from Beth in a while...here is the latest. Dark chocolate for Tony and Marshmallow icing for me.

It is delicious and I've been eating a small piece after supper with a cup of Chamomile.

I've been working steadily on my EPP Tiny 9 ...

Bramble Blooms, Chookshed Stitchers Challenge, Free Patterns from Canadian Needle Nana

If the sun is making it higher in the sky each day, we will never know here in our corner of Ontario. Even our weather guy said our usually gloomy winter weather has been unnaturally greyer this year.  It is interesting that this seems to be happening in other countries as well. And it makes me wonder if  greater weather change is afoot- or not.

I'm reading an ebook version of this book below and must say how much I'm enjoying it. It's about a young couple working hard to successfully homestead, work at marriage and create ...

Three Free Star Ornament Patterns, Applique and Quilting Progress from Canadian Needle Nana

On my second cup of coffee this morning and a big one at that. Yes, I use a straw to help keep my front teeth white. Weird I know.  Anyone else do that?

We had a busy day recently with financial meetings in a nearby town, getting a chest x ray for Tony, library books returned, etc. etc.  I needed bird seed which I usually buy in the largest bag I can find...this one at Walmart was on special.

Tony went to bed for a nap when we finally made it home and I tried to calm myself with ...

Finishes Yes Two of Them, Free Christmas Patterns from Canadian Needle Nana

On one of our very chilly but bright trail walks this week, I was struck by the blues and strange soft look of the November sky- it had a different look- and it reminded me of a line. I can't remember if it is from a poem or essay where the writer says " November's porcelain blue sky". Taken with my phone camera and no editing.

I visited older daughter, Amelia, this week and she is ahead of the game...her tree is up and decorated. I was interested in the three decorations I embroidered a couple of decades ...

Most Popular Thanksgiving Recipe, Christmas Coins, Free Pattern from Canadian Needle Nana

Playing nicely together at the feeder...

Somebody much younger than I am said recently she felt like each week is now just a couple of days. Time moving faster- I wonder, can it really. I know for sure there's no such thing as time heavy on our hands like the old folks would complain about back in the day. Is it because of all the gadgets we have, those to play with and those that make work easier, I wonder.
That last bit came to me this week as I mopped the floors using my Nellie which basically does ...

Quilt Projects Update, Sites to Explore, A Show Too from Canadian Needle Nana

The autumn pinkish purple Smoke tree was ablaze in the early morning sun which did not stay long.
A little touch of fungus is making interesting patterns on a few of its leaves.

We are watching a version of D. H. Lawrence's work including Women in Love on Brit Box. It is two very lengthy episodes with a wonderful cast. A little note...there is nudity.

I'm finished the 10 straight quilt lines on Christmas Coins. I'm happy to be hand quilting more interesting lines now... this design. It's just hand drawn curlicues that I think ...

Exploring Two Sites, Applique and Crochet, Family Time Too from Canadian Needle Nana

Lately one lone younger deer is travelling with the turkeys when they show up at the bird feeders. Curious about why that would be.

This week Robbie turned 10 which had the old folks all shaking their heads wondering how did that happen so fast! As is tradition, we greet him with fanfare when he gets off the school bus. We wonder when he will want that to stop.

It was a wings and pizza party with a beautiful made by Beth marzipan laden cake with a hidden layer of marshmallow frosting. I indulged myself and ate heartily... felt stuffed ...

Pattern Links, Autumn Table Mat, Pink Leaves from Canadian Needle Nana

I was aiming at the beautiful pinkish autumn leaves of this tree...the capture was unintended. Can you spy it? He was standing oh so still.

Taken on the wonderful Mississippi River Trail that runs through the entire town of neighbouring Carleton Place. I had only my phone with me which is a very inexpensive one that I use only for emergencies; it surprises me by being able to take photos. I guess they can all do that these days.

I've stitched another of Mom's Redwork blocks...This is Cabot Tower atop the National Historic site, Signal Hill ...

Thursdays' Things, Scrappy Strings, Free Pattern from Canadian Needle Nana

Reason to Keep the House Clean

I spent Monday afternoon tidying in the sewing room.  That seems to need doing every time I turn around and I thought of some of my quilting blogging friends as I was doing it. Bet they don't get into such a mess in their sewing rooms as I do in mine, I thought, and if one of them should drop in, what would they think! And that made me think of my Javex loving grandmother who was an especially clean freak. We were talking about this issue once and she said her house ...

Easy Hexagon Runner, Free Patterns, Redwork Stitching from Canadian Needle Nana

Yes, it is starting. I'm wearing gloves on my early morning walks these days. Staying cool but sunny which makes it wonderful fall weather. Here is a little roundup of tiny but wonderful things I enjoyed this week.

Baker Beth gave us these wonderful blueberry muffins and extra chocolatey cookies. A great treat!
I didn't share Robbie's back to school photo before but here he is now soon to be 10! He's tall for his age.
And he gave me this...worms he caught for my compost bin. I told him they will live a very ...

Autumn Quakers, The V&A Museum Site, Easy Meal, QAL from Canadian Needle Nana

There is a small flock of ducks visiting our little pond each day. I've never seen this kind before which may be American Black Ducks?. Their numbers have grown from 5 to the 17 I managed to count yesterday. They alert extremely easily- when one takes flight, they all go, so getting close for a photo is impossible. My long lens managed this shot. The pond looks golden here in the early morning sun which reminded me of the movie, On Golden Pond. Loved that one back in the day. Did you?
When I'd asked for lunch/meal ...

Free Jelly Roll Patterns from Quarter-Inch Capers

Happy Friday! I will be working at the quilt show today and tomorrow. I was there yesterday afternoon for the set up, but they were mostly done by the time I got there so I didn’t have to stay too long.

Last week I posted one of the free patterns for National Sew a Jelly Roll Day, and I thought I would post the other three in case anyone hadn’t seen them. I found a link to all four patterns here. I don’t know how long they will have the patterns linked to their page, so I ...

Free Patterns, Plus Quilt, Coleus Beginnings from Canadian Needle Nana

I mentioned a few years ago I wanted to grow Coleus and finally set a packet of seeds this spring. When I put out the tiny plants, some critter ate most of them and these few here below somehow survived. I'm happy to have these and hope they will fare well now when brought into the house later on.

All the Marigolds were also grown from seeds and I chose the autumn colours at the time. I wish I'd put them all in one big pot instead of spreading them throughout different pots as they would make such ...

Free Pattern from Quarter-Inch Capers

Saturday, September 16th is National Sew A Jelly Roll Day. There are four free jelly roll patterns in the Moda website. This one is my favorite.

The pattern is here. Is anyone participating in this event? I might, but I don’t want another UFO, and that is what has happened to me in previous years.
